Darren Stott (Principal Consultant)
I have 20 years of experience in the retail food industry. This includes a management role in Manchester, England for one of the UK’s largest Co-Op retailers as well as retail analytics consulting for blue chip retailers and manufacturers including Safeway, P&G, and Unilever. I also served as Director of Purchasing for North America’s largest online organic home delivery company, SPUD, for 7 years.
In 2010, I started my own firm, Greenchain Consulting, to expand on my experience with blue chip retail clients. My goal was to green the food supply chain by supporting BC local food initiatives through business development and planning.
Some of our Current Projects include the Vancouver Local Food Hub, Victoria Downtown Public Market, food procurement in local school districts, local food purchasing and distribution for not-for-profit food kitchens, and strategic planning for many local food businesses.
We’ve also been lucky enough to partner with some amazing organizations who are also trying to do great things with the local food supply chain. I believe that food should, ideally, be grown naturally, reared humanely, processed with no artificial ingredients, come in as little packaging as possible, made by people who are paid fairly, and come from as close to home as possible. I also believe that shopping for food should be an experience and not a chore, cooking should be a pleasure, and eating a sociable occasion!
I’m also passionate about the importance of food literacy and am a long-time volunteer with Growing Chefs, an organization that gets kids excited about healthy food.
